Nightwatch is a sound monitor that runs in your browser today. A Mac version is being built and is not available yet. This notice says what the browser version records, where that stays, and the little we hold about you. The last part describes the Mac version to come.
In your browser, today
Sound is measured in the page against your room's quiet. A short clip of each sound over that quiet is kept in your browser's own storage on your device for 7 days, then deleted; clearing the site's data deletes them sooner. If your own keys or taps on the page fall inside a sound, no clip is kept. It does not understand words and does not know who makes a sound. Nothing it hears is sent anywhere: the page only checks your membership.
What we hold about you
Your email address and password, your subscription status, your loyalty points, and any story or review you choose to send. We publish a story or review only if you tick the box that allows it.
Payments
Stripe takes your payment. We never see your card number.
Who helps us run this
Supabase holds accounts and data, Stripe takes payments, and Vercel runs this website. Each holds only what it needs to do its part.
Your choices
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account. To delete your account and everything we hold about you, email us and we will do it within 30 days.
Other people in the room
If anyone else shares the room, tell them Nightwatch is listening. Recording laws differ from place to place, and following them is up to you.
The Mac version, being built
The sections below describe the Mac version, which is not available yet. This notice will change when it ships.
What Nightwatch records
While it runs, it records the sound in the room and measures every sound against the room's quiet. The recordings are files on your Mac.
How long it keeps them
Hour-long recordings are deleted after 12 hours, unless you choose to keep that day. Short clips of single sounds are deleted after 7 days, unless you keep them. You can delete any recording yourself at any time: they are ordinary files in a folder on your Mac.
What it does not do
It does not understand words and does not know who makes a sound. It never sends audio anywhere, unless you choose a contact for alarms, as described below. The part that listens has no network code at all.
Your keyboard and mouse
It counts keyboard and mouse activity to tell when you are at your Mac, and to set your own tapping apart from the room. It never records which keys you press, and never keeps a recording of typing.
What leaves your Mac
Nothing, unless you choose a contact for alarms. Then, if Nightwatch hears the pattern of a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm and nobody answers the alert on your Mac, it sends that contact one message: by email with the clip, or by text without it.
Alarms
Nightwatch can alert you on your Mac when it hears the pattern of a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm. It is not a certified alarm and does not replace one.
